HIRE & RENTAL AUSTRALASIA

| WINTER 2017

which is an operator console that can

differentiate between operator error and

technical failure, guiding the operator

via a LED screen as to the solution to the

operator error.

According to ASPAC Managing

Director, Martin Eade, the German

manufactured Zeus by Teupen has

brought major advancements in safety,

quality and ease of use. “This is likely to

see hire companies that have traditionally

held off purchasing spider lifts, due to

their reputation as being more difficult

than other access equipment to operate,

purchasing these machines that can

generate large ROI,” he said.

“All Zeus by Teupen have QR codes

enabling operators who may not be

familiar with the unit to get equipment

training via their smart phones across

a range of applications such as driving,

operating, set-up and emergency controls.

“These machines come standard with

a whisper quiet Kubota diesel engine

to minimise noise and maximise fuel

economy. They have a dual 240 Volt power

function for emission-free use internally

and are also available with a new high

performance Lithium Ion battery pack.

“Being offered in Australia with a 3 year

comprehensive warranty will give rental

companies the peace of mind that Zeus by

Teupen will provide the performance and

reliability that rental companies and their

clients are looking for.”

ASPAC has also released the Athena

850HE and Athena 1090 Bi Levelling

scissor lifts. Mr Eade said the Athena 1090

will automatically level itself while driving

on slopes and while being driven in the

air, whereas the 850HE has been designed

as a more compact machine (only 800mm

wide) using outriggers to attain the 20

degree working angles.

Mr Eade believes that the biggest

change that is currently occurring in the

industry is the growth of more specialised

hire companies looking for units that

give them a point of difference in the

marketplace and which enables them to

supply different solutions for a variety of

job requirements.

Telehandler developments

With a view to making telehandler

machines more efficient, manufactures are

modifying engines and hydraulic systems

as well as focusing on fuel efficiency.

Dieci’s Alison Davey said advances

include side-mounted configurations

to improve serviceability and visibility,

and maintenance intervals on many

of the newer machines have also been

extended, which is very important as

maintenance costs can come into play on

older machines.

“Other

engine-related

advances

derive from Tier ll and upcoming Tier

lll emissions requirements. Today’s

telehandlers offer cleaner burning

engines, and in some cases are more

fuel efficient, as well as higher in

horsepower,” she said.

“Key factors that hire and rental

companies are looking for in

telehandlers include performance,

reliability and strong support,

together with safety features.

“Dieci’s range of telehandlers

starts from 2.5T and goes up to 21T,

and it is one of the few manufacturers

that has such a full range of machines,

as well as industry specific models

such as Cotton Pro, Poultry Pro,

Aqua Plus, and Railmaster.

“Our engineering team can assist

in fitting specialist attachments

to our machines such as buckets,

augers and cement baggers, hayforks,

sweepers, EWP manbaskets, rotating

forks and profilers.”

Ms Davey believes that the

industry is currently travelling quite

strongly with a large proportion of

the industry preferring to rent due to cost

effectiveness and convenience benefits.

“Factors such as cash inflows from

equipment

utilisation,

dollar

and

time utilisation, and higher prices

have contributed to the growth of the

telehandler market,” she said.

“However, there are also some issues

confronting the industry in some areas

including over investment in fleets and

leaving fleets parked for long periods of

time. Uncertain and unstable economic

conditions may also prevent people/

companies investing in their fleet.”

Dieci recently released the Agri Plus 40.7

Evo 2 telehandler that features four tonne

lift capacity, seven metre height, and an

agricultural boomwith 146 degree rotation.
